Dear Neighbor,
Nancy Schumm-Burgess, Executive Director Spring is nearly here. I can sense it in the bird calls, the precipitation’s shift from ice to rain, the buds on the trees and the green emerging from the earth. It is my favorite time of year. A time of hope and freshness and renewal, especially after the brutal winter we have had. It is also a new year and here at BACTrust we are launching several new initiatives in an effort to protect the community. One of our initiatives is the Heritage Corridor Program. You will be hearing a lot about this in the coming year. With potential impacts and pressures to our roads from the railroads and from developments occurring in surrounding communities, this strategy provides an opportunity for residents to take a stand for the community and help protect our local roads from expansion. Another initiative that we are working on is expanding our Lawyers Roundtable. This program, which has recently been accredited by the Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) Board of the Supreme Court of Illinois, is an opportunity for legal advisors to learn about estate transfers, taxes, liability issues and conservation issues. The classes are taught by legal faculty and hosted by Drinker, Biddle and Reath in Chicago. Lawyers who attend qualify for continuing education credits. As a result of our lawyers program BACTrust has been invited to be on the Conservation Defense Network for the Land Trust Alliance. Our program will also serve as a model for communities around the country. Our programs are moving forward and we will have lots of exciting news shortly. Happy Spring!
Sincerely, |
